Ojha was especially brutal on Shalabh Srivastava, hitting him for a four and two sixes in the sixth over of the innings. But eventually it was Srivastava, who broke their stand in the eight over by getting rid of Ojha on 28. An outside edge off Ojha’s bat was pouched by skipper Adam Gilchrist behind the stumps on 52/1.There was more cheer for Srivastava in the 10th over when he scalped the other opener David Warner on 29. Warner charged down the track in an attempt to hit Srivastava past the boundary, but didn’t get the ball of the sweet spot of the bat and it looped high in the sky before being easily pouched by Gilchrist on 67/2.In the 12th over Punjab leg spinner Piyush Chawla struck to despatch Sridharan Sriram cheaply to reduce Delhi to 72/3. But Chawla hadn’t finished as yet and in the 14th over he struck again to send back Delhi’s in-form batsman Venugopal Rao on 16, reducing Delhi to 90/4.Paul Valthaty, who scored a fine 62 in the first innings, came around to do some more damage. He scalped the same man who had claimed his wicket during the Punjab innings. A short ball saw Irfan Pathan hit out in the deep to Mandeep Singh when the team total was 92.advertisementNext, it was the turn of Delhi skipper James Hopes to take a walk back to the dug out. He became Chawla’s third victim when Delhi were batting on 97.New man Travis Brit, too did not stay for too long and was sent back Praveen Kumar on 116/7.Delhi could only managed to score 141/8 in their stipulated 20 overs and ended up losing the match by 29 runs. Punjab inningsPaul Valthaty and Shaun Marsh put 102 runs for the second wicket as Punjab scored a fine 170/6 against Delhi.Earlier, Delhi captain James Hopes won the toss and elected to field in the 60th IPL match of the season. Delhi managed to get a wicket in the fourth over when their South African paceman Morne Morkel got rid of captain Adam Gilchrist when the score was 21.Glichrist wanted to slog the ball past the boundary but failed to connect properly and gave a catch to David Warner at mid-on.Post the early setback, Punjab’s Aussie batsman Shaun Marsh and the other opener Paul Valthaty got on with a partnership helping the team to 70/1 in 10 overs. The two batted steadily as the Punjab run rate gradually climbed to more than eight an over. The duo put 102 runs for the second wicket before, Delhi paceman Irfan Pathan got rid of both on consecutive balls in the 15th over.First Pathan got the better of Marsh on 46 with an away moving ball that took the top edge of his bat to fall in Morke’s hands when the team total was 123.On the very next ball, Pathan’s ball entered Valthaty’s bat-pad gate to crash against his stumps on 62. His 50-ball innings that included six fours and three sixes finally came to an end on the third ball of the 15th over.An over later, Aavishkar Salvi claimed David Hussey cheaply and Punjab were 138/4. Then Irfan Pathan claimed his third victim in the form of Mandeep Singh in the 19th over. A fuller ball of Pathan that missed Singh’s bat crashed into his stumps when he was batting on 11. Punjab lost their fifth wicket on 156.Dinesh Karthik was the last wicket for fall from the Punjab camp as they posted a fine 170/6 on board. Karthik fell to Salvi on 27.last_img read more
