first_imgJob DescriptionThe Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech is in a periodof dramatic growth and opportunity. With substantial multi-yearinvestments from the Commonwealth of Virginia and infrastructureinvestments by Virginia Tech, we anticipate hiring multiple facultymembers at all ranks and in all areas for several years. We seekcandidates for tenured or tenure-track positions who are motivatedto contribute to a collegial, interdisciplinary community. Candidates for all positions must have a Ph.D.in computer science or a related field at the time of appointmentand a rank-appropriate record of scholarship and collaboration incomputing research. Tenured and tenure-track faculty are expectedto initiate and develop independent research that isinternationally recognized for excellence, conscientiously mentorresearch-oriented graduate students, teach effectively at bothgraduate and undergraduate levels, and serve the university andtheir professional communities.The department fully embraces Virginia Tech’s commitment toincrease faculty, staff, and student diversity; to ensure awelcoming, affirming, safe, and accessible campus climate; toadvance our research, teaching, and service mission throughinclusive excellence; and to promote sustainable transformationthrough institutionalized structures. CS faculty members directseveral interdisciplinary research centers, including the Centerfor Human-Computer Interaction and the Discovery Analytics Center.The department is home to over 1,200 undergraduate majors and over300 graduate students, with university commitments to grow allprograms significantly. The department is in the College ofEngineering, whose undergraduate program ranks 13th and graduateprogram ranks 31st among all U.S. engineering schools (USN&WR).Virginia Tech’s main campus is located in Blacksburg, VA, in anarea consistently ranked among the country’s best places to live.In addition, our program in the Washington, D.C., area offersunique proximity to government and industry partners and is alsoexpanding rapidly, with Virginia Tech’s exciting new InnovationCampus in Alexandria, VA, slated to open in 2024.
