NFL POWER RANKINGSRavens jump Patriots; Cowboys, Colts climb; Steelers, Eagles dip for Week 12NFL standings for Week 12 AFC playoff pictureWho would be in?1. Patriots, first place, AFC East (10-1) — The Patriots, whose only loss this season is to the Ravens, hold a slim one-game lead for the top seed. They also need to keep winning to ensure taking another division title, as they’re only up two games and have a tiebreaker on the Bills. Up next: Texans2. Ravens, first place, AFC North (9-2) — The Ravens are playing like the best team in the AFC but still need to finish at least even with the Patriots to get the top seed and home-field advantage in the playoffs. They are close to running away with the division, three games up on the Steelers and four games up on the Browns. Up next: 49ers3. Texans, first place, AFC South (7-4) — The Texans jumped the Colts by beating them 20-17 to open up Week 12 on Thursday night, also erasing their previous head-to-head tiebreaker. It doesn’t get any easier in Week 13, however. Up next: Patriots4. Chiefs, first place, AFC West (7-4) — The Chiefs have a Week 12 bye but already have dropped to No. 4 because they lose the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Texans, who beat them in Arrowhead Stadium earlier in the season. Up next: Raiders5. Bills, second place, AFC East (8-3) — The Bills have a strong hold on the top wild-card position as they continue to take advantage of a very favorable schedule, but things will get difficult during a key stretch starting in Week 13 with a short-week trip to Dallas on Thanksgiving. Up next: Cowboys6. Steelers, second place, AFC West (6-5) — The Steelers jumped here after surviving the Bengals on Sunday thanks to the Raiders and Colts losing. They still hold this spot with the Titans also winning, because of a better conference record. Up next: BrownsWho can get there?7. Raiders (6-5); 8. Colts (6-5); 9. Titans (6-5); 10. Browns (5-6)The Colts fell here after their key division loss in Houston on Thursday night. The Raiders fell out after temporarily being here after losing to the Jets. The Steelers, who have a superior conference record, jumped them. The Colts lose the head-to-head tiebreakers to both the Raiders and the Steelers. The Titans made it a virtual three-way tie with a win over the Jaguars. The Browns separated themselves from the below category to stay alive and well with the Steelers nextWho’s likely out?11. Jaguars (4-7); 12. Chargers (4-7); 13. Jets (4-7); 14. Broncos (3-8); 15. Dolphins (2-9)The Broncos and Dolphins stayed cold with losses in Week 12, while the Jets, going through the easiest second-half schedule, have won three straight to save some face with Adam Gase.Who’s out?16. Bengals (0-11)The Bengals can’t do better than five wins, which isn’t good enough. They’re bad enough now to go winless and secure the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.WEEK 12 NFL PICKS: Against the spread | Straight-up predictions (Getty Images) https://images.daznservices.com/di/library/sporting_news/28/be/aaron-rodgers-11082019-getty-ftrjpg_17tdjutdh7jfe1eeyqjp8gswgn.jpg?t=1292581454&w=500&quality=80 NFC playoff pictureWho would be in?1. 49ers, first place, NFC West (10-1) — The 49ers maintained both their top seed and division lead by ripping the Packers on Sunday night, staying a game up on the Saints and Seahawks. They still need to play the former, but lost to the latter, so keep that in mind down the line. Up next: Ravens2. Saints, first place, NFC South (9-2) — The Saints will get their shot at the 49ers soon, but they don’t play the Packers. They have wins over the Cowboys and Seahawks. They are on the verge of clinching another division title with a four-game lead coming out of Week 12. Up next: Falcons3. Packers, first place, NFC North (8-3) — The Packers missed a big chance to jump up to a No. 1 by being throttled by the 49ers, but they are still up a head-to-head tiebreaker on the Vikings for the division lead. Up next: Giants4. Cowboys, first place, NFC East (6-5) — The Cowboys still have a one-game lead, plus the head-to-head tiebreaker, over the Eagles coming out of Week 12, but on top of being well behind the Packers and Saints, they lost to both teams, so should they hold on and win the division again, they’re likely stuck on this seed. Up next: Bills5. Seahawks, second place, NFC West (9-2) — The Seahawks are looking at the No. 3 seed after beating the Eagles, should the 49ers lose in Week 12, assuming the Saints rally to win as big favorites. Up next: Vikings6. Vikings, second place, NFC North (8-3) — The Vikings will either stay here during their bye or slide up to No. 5 with a loss by the Seahawks. Guess who they play in Week 13. Up next: SeahawksWho can get there?7. Rams (6-5); 8. Bears (6-6); 9. Eagles (5-6); 10. Panthers (5-6); 11. Buccaneers (4-7)The Rams failed to keep winning in Week 12 after beating the Bears in Week 11, losing the AFC’s Ravens badly at home Monday night. and severely hurting their fading chances. The Eagles’ best path to the playoffs remains winning the NFC East over the Cowboys.Who’s likely out12. Cardinals (3-7-1); 14. Falcons (3-8); 15. Giants (2-9),;16. Redskins (2-9)The Cardinals, Falcons and Giants have shown flashes at times, but the wins haven’t added up. The Redskins no longer look like they will finish behind the Bengals. Who’s out13. Lions (3-8-1)They were eliminated with their loss to the Bears which keeps the wild-card berths and NFC North out of reach.last_img read more

Baldock equalises after Son opener – but more VAR controversy

first_imgEtienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:13 pmIt’s safe to say Spurs fans are not happy. Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:26 pmWe are expecting to hear from Mauricio Pochettino soon.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:15 pmMany Spurs fans will agree with this one. TOTTENHAM once again struggled to win in the Premier League after Sheffield United pegged them back to a 1-1 draw.Son Heung-min netted the opener as Spurs looked for a second win in six matches.David McGoldrick thought he had the Blades level, but it was controversially ruled offside because of a toe.Yet, George Baldock ensured Sheffield United took a point back to Bramall Lane after confusion in the Tottenham box – seeing them move up to fifth above Arsenal who have a game in hand.Tottenham 1 Sheffield United 1 FTGeorge Baldock strike hands Blades much deserved equaliserSon Heung-min scored once again to give Spurs the leadMore VAR controversy as a toe rules out McGoldrick goal that would have put Sheffield United levelUnfortunately, this match is not available on UK TV due to broadcast restrictionsHighlights on Match of the Day at 11pm on BBC OneTottenham XI: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Doer, Sanchez, Davies, Sissoko, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Alli, Son, KaneSubs: Vorm, Alderweireld, Foyth, Winks, Sessegnon, Eriksen, Lucas MouraSheffield United XI: Henderson, Baldock, Basham, Egan, O’Connell, Stevens, Norwood, Lundstram, Fleck, McGoldrick, MoussetSubs: Moore, Sharp, McBurnie, Besic, Jagielka, Freeman, RobinsonEtienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 6:02 pmThat’s all from us folks. Thanks for tuning in on what was another pretty dire afternoon for Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino’s side went 1-0 up when Son was gifted a simple chance when Enda Stevens took a poor touch in his own box.Spurs then benefited from a dreadful VAR call, but Eric Dier’s unfortunate own goal condemned them to a disappointing 1-1 draw, but a 1-1 draw that their performance would suggest they were lucky to get.Next time out it’s a trip to badly out-of-form West Ham after the international break.Surely things can only get better for Spurs, surely…Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:56 pmPochettino has explained why Ndombele was withdrawn at half time.“We need to assess him. He felt pain in his groin. We don’t know if it happened before or during the game but he said he was okay to play during the game. “Then he came off at half-time and the doctor said to me that can’t play. I think it affected the team.”Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:52 pmThe Spurs manager has had his say.“Always when you don’t win you are disappointed and it’s impossible to feel happy. The performance I think was an even game and they deserved the point. I think first half they were better and we were in the second. “Strange that Tanguy Ndombele never felt comfortable in the game and I think that affected us. We changed him for Harry Winks.”Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:48 pmPochettino is in the building…Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:44 pmChris Wilder is in first, and has had his say on the controversial VAR call that went against his side.He said: “When’s the reset? That’s the confusion. The ball came back out again after that. The length of the stoppage doesn’t do anyone any good. If it’s offside then we have to deal with it.“I think in certain things you have to go to the process and have a big look at it in the summer. It’s here to stay and there’s no doubt about it. It’s changed the game and obviously it’s going to create debate.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:40 pmSon has spoken to Spurs TV. Sonny: “It’s a really disappointing afternoon.” #THFC ⚪️ #COYS pic.twitter.com/nrjJb9zaZn— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) November 9, 2019Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:33 pmWhile we wait for Pochettino, that was a strange move to bring on Foyth for Dele Alli wasn’t it?And you could clearly see that Dele wasn’t happy about it. Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 5:05 pmMauricio Pochettino will now have plenty to ponder over the international break. Today’s result continued his side’s streak of having not won back to back games this season.Spurs were ponderous and out ultimately out-thought by their newly promoted opponents.Next up is a trip to badly out-of-form West Ham , but you can guarantee the Hammers will be up for that one.How can the Argentine dig Spurs out of the mire this season?Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:56 pmFULL TIME: TOTTENHAM 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 1Despite a late push Spurs just cannot forge a late chance to win it.Another dreadful performance from Mauricio Pochettino’s men and Chris Wilder will be disappointed that his side haven’t won it after that performance.Surely top four is gone for Spurs.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:52 pmTOTTENHAM 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 193mins: Lucas Moura denied by a stunning fingertip save from Dean Henderson!Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:50 pmChris Basham booked for a late challenge on Son, not dissimilar to the challenge the South Korean was sent off for last weekend.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:49 pmTOTTENHAM 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 190mins: Son skips past a challenge but shoots tamely at Henderson from a tricky angle, time ticking away for Spurs. Six minutes added on.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:46 pmTOTTENHAM 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 187mins: Final roll of the dice as Lucas Moura replaces Serge Aurier.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:39 pmJuan Foyth is booked for a late, needless challenge on John Fleck.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:38 pmAfter another VAR check the goal is given, 1-1.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:37 pmTOTTENHAM 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 177mins: Now Sheffield United really have equalised. And it’s deserved. After yet more dreadful defending, the Blades are allowed a free cross into the box from the right – with Eric Dier nodding past his own goalkeeper.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:33 pmTOTTENHAM 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 073mins: Alli substituted for Juan Foyth – now that is what you call a defensive change – Spurs appear to have gone three at the back. Interesting that the young Argentine was preferred to Alderweireld. Meanwhile on the pitch, Kane took too many touches and wasted a decent counter attacking chance.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:27 pmTOTTENHAM 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 067mins: Great chance for Son! The South Korean is played in by Alli but fluffs his shot after minimal interference from Jack O’Connell.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:25 pmTOTTENHAM 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 066mins: After taking a good touch in the box, McGoldrick fluffs his volley and somehow it is still 1-0 to Spurs.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:23 pmIt’s yet another VAR shocker at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as there is deemed to be the narrowest of offsides in the build-up to the goal. Another shocker from VAR – and a huge let off for Spurs.Etienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:22 pmGOAL DISALLOWEDEtienne Fermie10 Nov 2019, 4:22 pmThey’re checking for an extremely narrow offside in the build-up.Load more entries…last_img read more
