Angels, Dodgers notes: Reports say Angels, Mike Trout settle on extension

first_imgMike Trout and the Angels have settled on a six-year contract extension that would keep Trout in Anaheim until 2019, according to a report on Yahoo! Sports. The report claimed the sides still are negotiating the dollar figure, with the Angels offering a little more than $140 million and Trout’s camp countering with a figure above $150 million.Trout’s reaction? “No comment,” he told reporters at the Angels’ spring training complex in Tempe. “I like how a lot of people are writing it. It’s pretty funny.”A six-year contract would make Trout eligible for free agency at age 28. He’s currently set to hit the open market at age 26. Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error One key component for the Angels is when the new contract takes effect. If signed before the first day of the regular season, the average annual value of the contract would count toward the Angels’ luxury-tax calculation this year. If signed after the first day of the regular season, the contract wouldn’t be counted until 2015.Owner Arte Moreno confirmed the sides were talking last week, but neither side has commented publicly on negotiations since. Trout is in an unusual position to cash in early in his career. He finished second in the American League Most Valuable Player voting in each of his first two full seasons. The Angels have committed $145.7 million in 2014 to 16 players (and former outfielder Vernon Wells), not including Trout and the other players with zero to three years’ service team, according to the website Cot’s Baseball Contracts.Greinke in hot watercenter_img The Sydney Morning Herald reported local officials are “far from thrilled” with comments Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke made to Saturday. Greinke claimed he has “absolutely zero excitement” to begin the 2014 season in Sydney, where the Dodgers will play two games against the Arizona Diamondbacks.Dodgers president Stan Kasten said local organizers of the games had not reached out to him as of Sunday afternoon.Greinke is expected to start one of the two games in Sydney. The 30-year-old right-hander went 15-4 in 2013, his firs season with the Dodgers after signing a six-year, $159 million contract.Dodgers hold intrasquad gameDee Gordon and Hanley Ramirez hit home runs against Hyun-Jin Ryu in a Dodgers intrasquad game Sunday on a back field at Camelback Ranch. Ryu allowed five hits and three runs in two innings against a team drafted by Matt Kemp, who did not play in the game.Right-hander Matt Magill allowed only a double to Yasiel Puig and an RBI single by Scott Van Slyke in two innings. Kemp’s team won the four-inning game, 3-1.Brian Wilson, Kenley Jansen, J.P. Howell and Chris Perez each threw scoreless innings in relief.Stephen Fife, Dan Haren, Chris Reed, Paco Rodriguez and Jamey Wright are scheduled to pitch in today’s intrasquad game on a back field at the Dodgers’ spring training complex. STAR PREVIEW Chelsea v Swansea City

first_img[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he aggregate score last season between Chelsea and Swansea was 9-2 and it’s hard to argue a case for it being much different today as the defending champions will be keen to start the new season in style in front of their home crowd.Chelsea are now unbeaten in their last 10 league meetings with Swansea, winning eight and the Swans have lost all four Premier League trips to Stamford Bridge. If you pinning your hopes on a close game then the angle in will be the relatively poor pre-season friendly form for Chelsea but how much that will count for in the season proper is questionable.Jose Mourinho said: “The real football starts today, I think everybody’s waiting for it. Let’s try to be a good team and be here in March or April speaking about winning something. I believe the teams who aren’t title contenders will be stronger, the gap between the top and others will be shorter.”The big team news is that Diego Costa remains a doubt after sitting out the Community Shield last weekend. For Swansea Jordi Amat is the only doubt with a foot problem.Chelsea v Swansea CityPremier League5.30pm SKYHEAD TO HEAD RECORD(Maximum 10 matches)Jan 2015 Premier Swansea 0-5 ChelseaSep 2014 Premier Chelsea 4-2 SwanseaApr 2014 Premier Swansea 0-1 ChelseaDec 2013 Premier Chelsea 1-0 SwanseaApr 2013 Premier Chelsea 2-0 SwanseaJan 2013 Capital One Cup Swansea 0-0 ChelseaJan 2013 Capital One Cup Chelsea 0-2 SwanseaNov 2012 Premier Swansea 1-1 ChelseaJan 2012 Premier Swansea 1-1 ChelseaSep 2011 Premier Chelsea 4-1 SwanseaNot exactly the bravest bet for me to start the new campaign.
