The applicant willparticipate in a variety of ongoing basic science, modeldevelopment, bioengineering, and translational studies. Mustpossess laboratory skills in cell and tissue culture, microscopy,image processing and analysis, rodent colony management andhandling, histological, molecular biology, and biochemicalanalyses. As lab manager, the applicant is responsible forfostering the efficient use and flow of the laboratory’s financialand scientific resources to improve technical activities as well asassisting in formulating and implementing short and long-term goalsfor the operation of the laboratory.Job DutiesThe lab manager will assist with necessary administrative andscientific reporting and project management responsibilities offunding contracts and awards, handling the laboratory’s financesand resources including intramural and extramural grant awards anddevelopment funds and gifts, and coordinating all communicationwithin the lab as well as with external collaborative groups. Thelab manager will be responsible for maintaining the laboratoryequipment, supplies, protocols and procedures, communicating withvendors, ordering supplies and keeping track of deliveries and theassociated budgetary issues related to various projects, as well asgenerating and maintaining accurate inventory lists of labsupplies. In addition, the lab manager will manage the backup ofmaterial and data, accuracy of lab books, and incorporation ofmaterials and reagents into the lab’s databases. Will maintain labwebsite with regard to lab news, publications, arrivals,departures, and CVs and be responsible for lab safety, complianceprograms and the lab’s online presence.The lab manager will also interface with Department of Surgeryleadership to provide financial reporting to ensure timely andaccurate financial management of the grants and lab and personnelexpenses.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a Basic Science or related field. Fouryears of related experience may substitute for degreerequirement.Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisoryexperience. Experience working in a laboratory setting heavilyinvolved in basic science research with multiple animal/ diseasemodels with in vitro, in vivo and in silico work is required. Preferred QualificationsThe ability to write materials and methods of manuscripts,working on ancillary grant documents, such as but not limited to,biosketches, equipment and facilities, budget justification andauthentication of key biologicals, letters-of-support drafts isexpected. Content development for communication of lab discoveriesand editing manuscripts and grants is desired.Candidates with a Master’s degree with 3-5 years of experienceor candidates with advanced doctoral degrees with expertise inbasic science research will also be considered. Previous experiencein grant writing and submission process is desired.Experience managing grant finances and budgetary reporting isalso preferred.
